Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has stated that some officials in the regional device organisations (OPD) within the Tulungagung Regency Government, East Java, had to borrow money to meet demands from Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo (GSW).

“Some OPDs even borrowed funds to the point of using personal money,” said KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Saturday (11/4) night.

According to Asep, this could trigger a snowball effect or corruption methods such as project arrangements or receiving gratuities to meet GSW’s demands.

“When asked for something, in this case by GSW, the OPD heads will naturally try to find it. Earlier, there was none yet (money), we are concerned that later they will take it from projects and so on, so the ones harmed are the public,” he said.

“Why? Because the money or funds that should be used to build infrastructure end up being taken partially, so the infrastructure’s quality declines, and the public suffers the loss,” he explained.

Previously, KPK conducted a raid operation (OTT) in the Tulungagung area, East Java, on 10 April 2026.

KPK arrested 18 people in that OTT, including Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo and his younger brother, who is also a member of the Tulungagung DPRD, Jatmiko Dwijo Saputro.

A day later, on 11 April 2026, KPK brought Gatut Sunu Wibowo and his brother along with 11 others to Jakarta for intensive examination.

On the same date, KPK announced Gatut Sunu Wibowo (GSW) along with Dwi Yoga Ambal (YOG), his aide, as suspects in the alleged extortion case and other receipts in the Tulungagung Regency Government for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.
