KPK Seizes Rp1 Billion in Cash Linked to Rejang Lebong Regent Corruption
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) seized cash worth Rp1 billion following raids related to alleged corruption within the Rejang Lebong District Government in Bengkulu. The raids were conducted from 13 to 15 March 2026 at multiple locations connected to the investigation.
KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the cash was discovered at the residence of the Head of the Public Works, Spatial Planning, Housing and Settlements Office (PUPRPKP) of Rejang Lebong.
“Investigators found and seized cash worth Rp1 billion from the residence of the PUPRPKP head,” Budi told journalists in Jakarta on Monday, 16 March.
In addition to the cash, investigators also seized documents and electronic evidence from several raid locations. The locations targeted for raids included the office and residence of the Rejang Lebong Regent, the office and residence of the PUPRPKP Head, the Rejang Lebong Education Office, as well as residences of suspects and witnesses connected to the case. The raids were conducted to gather further evidence in the investigation into alleged project bribery within the local government.
The case began with a KPK arrest operation on 9 March 2026. In that operation, the KPK arrested Regent Muhammad Fikri Thobari, Deputy Regent Hendri, and 11 others suspected of involvement in project bribery schemes.
The following day, on 10 March 2026, the KPK brought the regent, deputy regent, and seven others to Jakarta for further questioning. On the same day, the KPK designated Muhammad Fikri Thobari as a suspect in alleged corruption involving bribery.
In its preliminary investigation, the KPK suspects that Regent Muhammad Fikri Thobari demanded compensation of approximately 10 to 15 percent from contractors for development projects. The funds were allegedly intended to be used as holiday bonuses for the community. The KPK continues to investigate the flow of funds and the possible involvement of other parties in the case.
