The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has revealed that Harno Trimadi (HT), former director of railway infrastructure at the Directorate General of Railways under the Ministry of Transportation, is suspected of receiving gratification from heads of various transport bureaus. The KPK alleges HT received the gratification during his tenure as head of the Procurement and State Assets Management Bureau (LPPBMN) at the ministry.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo told journalists on Wednesday: “There is a suspicion that HT, as head of the LPPBMN bureau in the Ministry of Transportation at that time, received gratification from bureau heads.” Previously, on Tuesday (26 May), Budi stated that the KPK suspects several bureau heads were involved in gratification practices as givers. When asked if the bureau heads could become suspects for allegedly giving gratification, Budi said the KPK is still investigating: “We’ll see how it unfolds.”

Witnesses summoned include the head of the Class II North Sumatra Land Transport Management Bureau (BPTD), Ariyandi Ariyus; former head of the Type C Ambon BPTD, Herman Armanda; and the head of the Infrastructure Division of the Class I West Java BPTD, Hanura Kelana Iriana. The three were summoned on Monday (25 May), but only Ariyandi Ariyus complied. On Tuesday (26 May), the head of the Vehicle Roadworthiness Testing and Certification Bureau (BPLJSKB), Iman Sukandar, and the head of the Class II Jambi BPTD, Benny Nurdin Yusuf, were summoned and attended as witnesses.

The Central Java Region Class I Railway Technical Bureau has since been renamed the Semarang Class I Railway Technical Bureau. The KPK has named 10 suspects and detained them over alleged corruption in railway construction and maintenance projects across Java, Sumatra, and Sulawesi. The case includes the double-track railway project between Solo Balapan-Kadipiro-Kalioso, railway construction in Makassar, four railway construction projects and two supervision projects in Lampegan and Cianjur, as well as the Java-Sumatra level crossing improvement project. Allegedly, the winning contractors were manipulated through administrative fraud from the application stage through to tender award.
