Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has questioned a Bekasi Hajj Dormitory staff member with the initials NIL as a witness in the hajj quota corruption case.

“The questioning took place at the KPK’s Red and White Building, involving NIL in their capacity as a staff member of the Bekasi Hajj Dormitory,” KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo told journalists in Jakarta on Tuesday.

When asked to confirm whether witness NIL had complied with the KPK’s summons, Budi confirmed the witness was present.

“Present,” he confirmed.

Previously, on 9 August 2025, the KPK announced it had launched an investigation into alleged corruption in the determination of hajj quotas and the organisation of hajj pilgrimages at the Ministry of Religious Affairs during 2023-2024.

On 11 August 2025, the KPK announced that preliminary calculations of state losses in the case exceeded Rp1 trillion and imposed travel bans on three individuals for up to six months.

Those subject to the travel bans were Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, Ishfah Abidal Aziz (also known as Gus Alex), and Fuad Hasan Masyhur, the owner of hajj travel operator Maktour.

On 9 January 2026, the KPK announced that two of the three individuals subject to travel bans had been named suspects in the alleged hajj quota corruption case, namely Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (YCQ) and Ishfah Abidal Aziz (IAA).

However, Yaqut filed a pre-trial motion challenging his suspect designation at the South Jakarta District Court on 10 February 2026, registered under case number 19/Pid.Pra/2026/PN JKT.SEL.

The initial pre-trial hearing was originally scheduled for 24 February 2026.

On 19 February 2026, the KPK announced an extension of the travel bans for Yaqut and Gus Alex only, whilst Fuad’s ban was not renewed.

Subsequently, on 24 February 2026, the panel of judges at the South Jakarta District Court declared that Yaqut’s pre-trial hearing had been postponed and rescheduled for 3 March 2026. The panel explained that the postponement was made at the KPK’s request, conveyed through a letter dated 19 February 2026.
