KPK Proposes Limit of Two Terms for Party Leaders, Cak Imin: Law Still Provides Flexibility
PKB General Chairman Muhaimin Iskandar, or Cak Imin, responded to the KPK’s proposal regarding limiting the tenure of party leaders to a maximum of two terms. Cak Imin stated that the KPK’s proposal is a good one, but the law still provides flexibility for the tenure of party leaders.
“Yes, it’s a good proposal. But the law still provides flexibility,” said Cak Imin at the BP Jamsostek building in South Jakarta on Monday (27/4/2026).
Cak Imin explained that the election of party leaders is conducted openly within the party. He stated that this is a democratic process.
“Secondly, democracy also provides space for an internal selection process that is very open and democratic,” Cak Imin clarified.
For information, the KPK has conducted a study on political party governance to prevent corruption. One of them is the KPK’s proposal for a limit on the leadership tenure of party general chairmen to two terms.
This study was carried out by the KPK in 2025 through the Monitoring Directorate. The KPK identified four points that need improvement in Indonesia’s party system and provided 16 recommendations.
“To ensure the smooth running of cadre development, regulation is needed to limit the leadership tenure of the party general chairman to a maximum of two terms,” states one of the recommendations in the KPK’s study results, on Thursday (23/4).
