KPK Plans to Question Former Transport Minister Budi Karya in Semarang Regarding DJKA Case
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has scheduled an examination of former Transport Minister (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi. Budi Karya will be questioned concerning alleged corruption within the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA). He will be examined by the KPK in the status of a witness.
“Today the investigators have scheduled an examination of witness Budi Karya Sumadi, as former Transport Minister, in a case of alleged corruption (TPK) related to railway line procurement within the DJKA,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in a statement on Monday (9 March 2026).
The KPK stated that the examination of Budi Karya is planned to be conducted at the BPKP office in Semarang.
“The examination will be conducted at the BPKP office in Semarang,” said Budi.
In the examination, the KPK will also gather information from other witnesses. Their testimony is expected to shed light on this case.
“Examinations are also being conducted for other witnesses,” said Budi.
It is noted that Budi Karya has been summoned twice previously in the alleged DJKA corruption case. The KPK had earlier urged Budi Karya to respond to the summonses.
The DJKA case was uncovered following a covert operation (OTT) conducted by the KPK on 11 April 2023 at the Central Java Technical Railway Centre Class I of DJKA under the Transport Ministry. The Technical Railway Centre Class I Central Java has since been renamed to the Technical Railway Centre Class I Semarang.
The KPK subsequently named 10 suspects who were immediately detained in connection with the alleged corruption case involving the construction and maintenance of railway lines in Java, Sumatra, and Sulawesi.
After some time, by November 2024, the KPK had named a total of 14 suspects. The KPK has also named two corporations as suspects in the case.
