KPK On Oppo Mobile Phone Auction Selling For Rp59 Million: Winner Has Not Yet Paid
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has clarified details regarding the auction of two Oppo brand mobile phones that sold for Rp59.723 million from a reserve price of Rp73 million.
KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo stated that the auction winner has not yet redeemed the items. His office is still awaiting the deadline for payment settlement from the auction winner.
“We are still waiting for the payment settlement deadline from the auction winner. In auction processes, it is common for each party to make their own offers. Bidders can also go beyond the reserve price if they wish,” Budi told journalists at KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Tuesday (17 March).
Regarding allegations of unreasonable pricing, Budi stated that such occurrences can happen since the prices are determined by willing bidders.
“In auction processes, nothing is impossible as long as it comes from bidders,” he said.
Budi also explained that items selling at extraordinarily high prices are common in other KPK auctions.
“Looking at the history of KPK auctions, it often happens that items with reserve prices of hundreds of thousands can sell for tens of millions. Several auction cases have experienced this. If you recall, one example was the sale of Kiswah cloth that also achieved fantastic sale values,” he said.
Regarding the auction process, Budi said the KPK collaborated with the Ministry of Finance through the State Assets and Auction Service Office (KPKNL).
“Every rupiah obtained from KPK auction proceeds will be deposited into state treasury. This adds to state revenue. The auction process was conducted in direct cooperation with the Ministry of Finance, through KPKNL,” he said.
