KPK: House Arrest for Gus Yaqut Already in Accordance with Procedure
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is unperturbed by the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI), which lodged a complaint alleging ethical violations by KPK officials to the KPK Supervisory Board (Dewas) on Wednesday (25/3/2026). The complaint concerns the transfer of former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas from detention in the State Detention Centre (Rutan) to house arrest.
KPK maintains that there was nothing improper about changing Yaqut’s detention status. “All processes and steps taken have been carried out in accordance with the mechanisms, procedures, and applicable legal regulations,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters on Wednesday (25/3/2026).
KPK appreciates the ethical complaint filed by MAKI, as it represents public participation to ensure the accountability and integrity of the KPK.
“KPK remains committed to carrying out its anti-corruption duties in a transparent, accountable, and verifiable manner, while being open to all forms of oversight as part of efforts to maintain public trust,” Budi stated.
KPK based the change in Yaqut’s detention status on considerations from Article 108 paragraphs 1 and 11 of Law No. 20 of 2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP). Therefore, KPK is prepared to face MAKI’s complaint.
“We are confident that the Supervisory Board will follow up on the report objectively, professionally, and independently,” Budi said.
