Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) states that it has reported to President Prabowo Subianto and DPR RI Speaker Puan Maharani regarding the results of its study on preventing corruption in the political party governance sector.

“KPK has reported and officially conveyed the study results along with recommendation points to the President and the DPR Speaker,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists in Jakarta on Saturday.

Budi explained that KPK’s actions serve as an impetus for the government and legislature to realise political system reforms in Indonesia.

He stated that there are three main recommendations that KPK deems important to be promptly followed up or implemented by the government and DPR RI.

“First, amending regulations to the Law Number 7 of 2017 on General Elections and Law Number 10 of 2016 on Regional Head Elections,” he said.

Budi explained that the aspects needing change relate to the recruitment of election organisers, campaign methods and voting, vote counting and recapitulation, as well as strengthening articles regulating sanctions.

“Second, amending regulations to Law Number 2 of 2008 on Political Parties as amended by Law Number 2 of 2011, by adding scope for standardising political education, cadre development, and political party financial reporting,” he said.

“Specifically regarding the discussion of the Bill on Limiting Cash Transactions, KPK views this as urgent because the practice of vote buying or money politics (purchase of votes or cash politics, ed.) through physical cash transactions is still rampant,” he said.

According to Budi, the Bill is important to discuss because the practice of vote buying or money politics is seen by KPK as one of the entry points for recurring corruption that is difficult to monitor.

“Therefore, limiting cash transactions is viewed as one strategic step in efforts to prevent corruption,” he said.

If the three main recommendations are followed up, said Budi, it is hoped that improvements in the political party governance system will be realised, particularly in aspects of cadre development to political education.

“Not only strengthening democracy, but also creating a transparent and accountable cadre and candidate process,” he said.
