KPK Establishes Two Suspects from Cilacap Sting Operation
Indonesia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (KPK) has established two suspects from a sting operation conducted in Cilacap Regency, Central Java. The designation came after 24-hour preliminary investigations revealed sufficient evidence.
“In today’s briefing, two individuals have been established as suspects,” KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo told reporters at KPK headquarters in South Jakarta on Saturday (14 March 2026).
Budi did not initially disclose the identities of the two suspects, stating they would be revealed during a press conference scheduled for later that day.
It is known that Cilacap Regent Syamsul Auliya Rachman was caught in the sting operation, along with Cilacap Regional Secretary Sadmoko Danardono. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed that both officials have been brought to Jakarta, along with 11 other individuals.
“A total of 13 individuals were brought to Jakarta, including the regent, regional secretary and other structural officials from Cilacap Local Government,” Budi explained to reporters on Saturday (14 March 2026).
All 13 individuals arrived at Jakarta early in the morning and are currently undergoing intensive investigations at KPK’s Red and White Building. “They arrived at KPK headquarters at approximately 02:35 Western Indonesian Time. Intensive questioning is currently ongoing,” Budi stated.
Prior to being brought to Jakarta, Regent Syamsul was initially secured at Banyumas Regional Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit, where he underwent preliminary questioning by the KPK team. He was transferred to Purwokerto Station on Friday (13 March 2026) at 21:12 Western Indonesian Time, dressed in a green mask, white long-sleeved shirt and black trousers. He declined to comment when approached by journalists.
Syamsul and Regional Secretary Sadmoko, along with several head officials wearing masks, proceeded to the VIP waiting room at Purwokerto Station before boarding the Purwojaya Train at 21:37 Western Indonesian Time.
The KPK spokesperson previously stated that a total of 27 individuals were secured during the sting operation in Cilacap. The case against Syamsul centres on allegations of bribery related to projects in Cilacap Regency. “There are allegations that the regent received bribes in connection with various projects in Cilacap Regency,” Budi said.
