Jakarta – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has confirmed that the handling of the alleged criminal corruption related to the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train project, or Whoosh, within PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), continues to proceed.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the alleged Whoosh corruption case is still in the investigation phase.

“Regarding the Whoosh high-speed train, the process is currently still at the investigation stage,” Budi told reporters on Tuesday, 5 May 2026.

When asked about the reason KPK has not yet elevated the case to the investigation phase despite the probe beginning in early 2025, Budi explained that it pertains to case management.

“This is merely case handling management because KPK is currently managing many cases. For instance, several undercover investigations or sting operations conducted by KPK in various regions over the past few months,” he clarified.

Nevertheless, he affirmed that KPK continues to investigate the alleged corruption in the Whoosh project.

“This investigation is still progressing. Several actions are also being taken by the investigators,” he said.

Previously, former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, in a video uploaded to his personal YouTube channel, Mahfud MD Official, on 14 October 2025, revealed allegations of criminal corruption in the form of budget inflation or mark-ups in the Whoosh project.

“According to Indonesian calculations, the cost per kilometre for Whoosh is 52 million US dollars. However, in China itself, it is calculated at 17-18 million US dollars. It has tripled,” he stated.

He continued, “Who raised it? Where did the money go? It tripled. From 17 million US dollars—US dollars, not rupiah—per kilometre to 52 million US dollars in Indonesia. That’s a mark-up. It must be investigated who did this initially.”

On 16 October 2025, KPK urged Mahfud MD to file a report regarding the alleged corruption in the Whoosh project.

Following that, Mahfud MD and KPK exchanged responses on the matter. On 26 October 2025, Mahfud stated he was ready to be summoned by KPK to provide testimony related to the alleged Whoosh corruption.
