KPK Clarifies Investigation Activity at Deputy Minister's Residence Was Not a Search
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) provided clarification regarding the activities of its investigation team at the residence of the Deputy Minister for Immigration and Corrections, Silmy Karim, on Wednesday night (3/6). The anti-corruption agency stressed that the action was not a search.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo explained that during the activity, the handling of the alleged corruption case within the Directorate General of Immigration was still at the inquiry stage. Procedurally, a search is only conducted once a case has progressed to the investigation stage.
“There was no search,” Budi Prasetyo stated during a press conference at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Thursday (4/6).
Budi elaborated that the team’s actions in the field were part of a covert inquiry process. Officers sealed off several strategic locations with KPK line tape. “As part of the covert inquiry activities, the KPK sealed off several locations to prepare for a potential search when the case reaches the investigation stage later,” he explained.
He also assured that the KPK would be transparent and inform the public once a search is officially conducted during the case’s investigation process.
The case originated from the KPK’s 11th sting operation of 2026, targeting the West Jakarta Special Class I Non-TPI Immigration Office. The alleged corruption relates to processing residence permits for foreign nationals, specifically permanent stay permits and limited stay permits.
During the operation on 2-3 June 2026, the KPK detained a total of 17 individuals. They comprised eight state officials or civil servants and nine private parties suspected of acting as intermediaries. On Thursday, the KPK officially named several officials as suspects and detained them.
