JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the agency has changed the detention status of former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas to house arrest following a request from his family on Tuesday (17/3/2026).

Upon receiving the request, the KPK reviewed and approved it, considering Article 108 paragraphs (1) and (11) of Law No. 20 of 2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code.

He said that the change in Yaqut’s detention status would not hinder the ongoing investigation process.

“We will complete the investigator’s file so that it can be promptly handed over to the prosecution stage,” he added.

“Every investigation process naturally has different conditions and case handling strategies, including the detention of a suspect,” Budi stated.

It was previously reported that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) changed the detention status of former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas from prison to house arrest.

Yaqut had been in prison for approximately seven days, or one week.

He was officially detained by the KPK since Thursday night (12/3/2026).

At that time, Yaqut had just completed further examination as a suspect after his pre-trial was rejected by a single judge at the South Jakarta District Court.

Yaqut is charged under Article 2 paragraph (1) or Article 3 of Law No. 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption.

The KPK revealed that the state losses from the alleged corruption case involving Hajj quotas, which implicates Yaqut, amount to Rp 622 billion.
