Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Setyo Budiyanto admitted that he has not received a summons from the KPK Supervisory Board (Dewas) regarding a public complaint about the change in detention status for the suspect in the alleged hajj quota corruption case, who is also the former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas.

“If from the leadership there hasn’t been (a summons from Dewas), but perhaps more specifically that should be asked to Dewas,” Setyo said at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Setyo does not take issue with the report and emphasised that he will follow the course of the process related to the report.

“We just wait for the process,” he said.

Previously, Chairman of the KPK Dewas Gusrizal explained that the KPK Dewas had received the public complaint since 25 March 2026.

The complaint, he said, questions the legal and ethical basis behind the decision to change Yaqut’s detention status from state detention centre (rutan) to house arrest.

Furthermore, he stated that the KPK Dewas has received and disposed of every incoming complaint to be followed up as soon as possible since 30 March 2026.

Meanwhile, he said that the KPK Dewas is committed to not slackening its supervisory function, so it will continue to monitor every stage of the hajj quota case handling, particularly from the ethical and behavioural aspects of KPK personnel to ensure there is no abuse of authority in the future.

Therefore, he said that the KPK Dewas invites the public to continue monitoring and providing constructive input to the anti-corruption agency.

According to him, the independence and integrity of the KPK can only be maintained if the mutual checking or check and balance mechanism between the KPK internally and the public runs harmoniously for the upholding of justice in Indonesia.

Previously, on 9 August 2025, the KPK began investigating the alleged corruption case related to the hajj quota for Indonesia in 2023–2024.

On 9 January 2026, the KPK announced former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas and Ishfah Abidal Aziz alias Gus Alex, as Yaqut’s special staff, as suspects in the case.

Meanwhile, Fuad Hasan Masyhur, owner of the hajj organiser bureau Maktour, was not named as a suspect, although he was once banned from leaving the country.

On 23 March 2026, the KPK announced that it was processing the change of Yaqut Cholil’s detention from house arrest back to rutan detention. Then on 24 March 2026, Yaqut officially became a detainee at the KPK Rutan.

On 30 March 2026, the KPK announced two new suspects in the case. They are Maktour’s Operational Director Ismail Adham, and Chairman of the Indonesian Hajj and Umrah Tour Travel Unity (Kesthuri) Asrul Aziz Taba.
