An anomaly occurred during the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) online auction of seized assets from corruption cases. A package containing two ordinary mobile phones sold for nearly Rp 60 million.

The KPK conducted an online auction of seized assets on Wednesday, 11 March 2026. Dozens of items were auctioned, ranging from houses and apartments to luxury bags, vehicles, and mobile phones.

The KPK reported that 15 lots of goods were successfully sold, with total auction proceeds of Rp 10.9 billion.

“The lots that sold consisted of 11 moveable items such as vehicles, motorcycles, electronic equipment, and various other accessories. For 4 immoveable lots, comprising land and buildings. The total value of goods sold at auction in March 2026 reached Rp 10.9 billion,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo.

The auction proceeds will be deposited into the state treasury as part of the corruption case asset recovery effort.

However, an unexpected development emerged from the auction. A package containing two Oppo mobile phones with a reserve price of Rp 75,000 sold for Rp 59.7 million.

“There is indeed an anomaly regarding the high value of the winning bid,” said Mungki Hadipratikto, Director of the KPK’s Asset Tracking, Evidence Management, and Execution Division (Labuksi).

Mungki stated he had not yet confirmed whether the winning bidder had made payment. He noted the winner has until 25 March to settle the payment.

Mungki noted that unusually high bids for auctioned goods have occurred previously. He cited an instance where the KPK had a winner bid on silk batik clothing with an initial reserve value of Rp 5,000, which ultimately reached a final bid of Rp 5 million.

“This happened once before in a previous auction. It involved a silk batik shirt with a reserve value of Rp 5,000 and a winner bid of Rp 5 million,” Mungki explained.

However, the winner defaulted on payment, and the silk batik was re-auctioned. In the subsequent auction, the batik sold for Rp 2.5 million.

“The previous winner breached the contract and failed to pay the remaining auction fees. It was re-auctioned and eventually sold for Rp 2.5 million, which was paid by the winning bidder. So this is the second time this has happened,” Mungki said.

Mungki stated the KPK remains awaiting payment from the mobile phone bidder. He indicated the phones would be re-auctioned if payment is not made.

“We are waiting until the final payment deadline for the auction fees. We continue to hope the winning bidder will honour their commitment to pay the auction costs,” Mungki stated.
