KPAI: Compliance of Digital Platforms Key to Success of PP Tunas
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) views the compliance of digital platforms in implementing Government Regulation (PP) No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection (PP Tunas) as the key to the regulation’s success. “The existence of PP Tunas must be followed by the commitment and compliance of all digital platforms. The compliance of platforms in carrying out the obligations mandated by PP Tunas will be the key to the success of PP Tunas in providing protection for children in the digital realm,” said KPAI member Kawiyan when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday. According to him, digital platforms must adhere to all articles contained in PP Tunas, such as user age classification, platform risk classification, age-based access restrictions, child personal data protection, content moderation, algorithm transparency, the obligation for digital platforms to provide education and literacy to parents and children, complaint mechanisms, and compliance audits. The Ministry of Communication and Digital has issued Ministerial Regulation No. 9 of 2026 as the implementing regulation for PP Tunas. Furthermore, digital platforms are not permitted to provide or accept requests for social media account creation from children under 16 years old. Digital platforms must also block or deactivate high-risk digital accounts belonging to children under 16 years old. The PP Tunas policy will be implemented in stages. For the first phase, there are eight digital platforms that must block accounts belonging to children under 16 years old, namely YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X (Twitter), Bigo Live, and Roblox.
