The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) is calling for the permanent closure of the Little Aresha Daycare in Yogyakarta, which is suspected of torturing children and toddlers. This measure is deemed essential to prevent any further instances of mental and physical violence against young children. “Of course, this daycare should be closed permanently to ensure no more children become victims,” said KPAI Commissioner Diyah Puspitarini when contacted by Republika on Sunday (26/4/2026). Diyah also stressed that the handling of this case must refer to Article 59A of the Child Protection Law, which provides special protection for child victims of violence. In addition, the child victims must receive psychosocial counselling as well as social assistance and legal protection. “KPAI also hopes for protection from the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) because some families of the child victims have been approached by unknown individuals,” said Diyah. She also appreciated the quick and child-friendly actions taken by the Yogyakarta City KPAI, Yogyakarta City Police, and the DIY Provincial Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Office in conducting the raid after receiving complaints. “And to this day, we at KPAI are continuously coordinating with those parties,” said Diyah.
