KP2MI matures cross-ministry synergy to ensure safe migration
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Protection for Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI) on Monday is maturing plans for a Cross-Ministry Cooperation Agreement to ensure protection and safe migration for Indonesian migrant workers through the “Safe Migrant” approach at the legal aid posts of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. “We are maturing plans for the establishment of a Cooperation Agreement between the Ministry of P2MI, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, and the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection as a concrete step to strengthen the protection of Indonesian migrant workers,” said Deputy Minister of P2MI Christina Aryani, according to a KP2MI statement in Jakarta on Monday. The statement was made after her meeting with Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej and Deputy Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Veronica Tan. Through this cooperation, Christina hopes that materials related to preventing sexual violence, trafficking in persons (TPPO), and gender perspectives will be socialised to law enforcement officials (APH) and related stakeholders as well as trainers, which will subsequently expand education to the grassroots level. “In the future, all paralegals at 80,298 Posbankum in villages and sub-districts throughout Indonesia are expected to have a strong understanding of preventing sexual violence, TPPO, and gender perspectives within the Safe Migrant framework,” said Christina. The Ministry of P2MI will later incorporate “Safe Migrant” materials to provide understanding to the community on how to become safe, protected prospective migrant workers free from legal issues from pre-departure until return to the homeland. “We target the signing of the Cooperation Agreement to take place on 18 May 2026, with the national launch of the programme, coinciding with Children’s Day,” said Christina Aryani.
