The Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri), along with relevant stakeholders, will evaluate the implementation of the national one-way system starting from kilometre 70 of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road up to kilometre 414 at Kalikangkung, Semarang.

This evaluation opens the possibility of halting the one-way traffic engineering, given that traffic movements have begun to ease following the peak of the homecoming flow on Wednesday (18/3).

“The national one-way system opened on 18 March will be evaluated by us tomorrow morning [Saturday (21/3)],” said the Head of the Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) Inspector General of Police Agus Suryonugroho in Jakarta on Friday (20/3), as reported by Antara.

According to Agus, if no signs of increasing traffic flow are found—for instance, if traffic counts on the toll road remain at low levels—then the national one-way system will be discontinued.

He added that collaboration with various parties, such as the Minister of Transportation, the President Director of Jasa Marga, and reporting to the National Police Chief, will be part of the evaluation process.

“Perhaps the one-way homecoming flow will be lifted by us. The timing will be announced later,” Agus stated.

The national one-way system was officially implemented since Wednesday (18/3) on the Trans Java Toll Road from kilometre 70 at the Cikampek Utama Toll Gate up to kilometre 414 at the Kalikangkung Toll Gate, Semarang.

Previously, this traffic engineering had been applied on a limited basis since Tuesday (17/3) from kilometre 70 to kilometre 263.

The implementation of the one-way system was expanded due to a significant increase in the volume of vehicles heading to Central Java.

Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi explained that the application of the one-way system represents the presence of the state to provide the best service for the public undertaking homecoming journeys.

“One of them is implementing traffic engineering initiated by Polri, in this case Korlantas and also several regional police commands in West Java, Central Java, and East Java, to ensure smoothness and comfort for the public,” Dudy said to reporters on Wednesday.

On that occasion, Dudy also urged homecoming travellers to pay attention to the directions and instructions from officers on the ground.

“Hopefully, in carrying out this journey, it can be done well and safely reach the destination,” Dudy stated.
