Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) has ensured that the handling of the train accident case at Bekasi Timur Station on 27 April 2026 is proceeding transparently and objectively.

Director of Law Enforcement at Korlantas Polri, Brigadier General Faizal, stated in Jakarta on Tuesday that they are collaborating with all relevant stakeholders in the investigation of the accident involving the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the KRL commuter train.

“We have also engaged all related stakeholders to work together in seeking clarity on this accident through scientific investigation, covering aspects such as human factors (whether there was human error), vehicles, and the infrastructure involved, to determine if there were any malfunctions that caused the accident,” he explained.

He noted that traffic accidents are events that often occur unexpectedly. However, they can actually be prevented and minimised through compliance and awareness among road users.

Faizal mentioned that one of the factors contributing to the train accident at Bekasi Timur was that the road facilities at the crossing were not fully equipped with gates and were not fully guarded by railway personnel.

In responding to the incident, Korlantas Polri is not focusing on determining who is at fault or which party should be held responsible for the accident at that level crossing.

However, according to Faizal, what is more important to underscore is the significant impact it has caused, namely 16 fatalities and dozens of injuries.

“Of course, all of this is part of a thorough investigation process, and the investigation is currently ongoing,” he said.

The train accident that occurred on Monday (27/4) night resulted in a total of 16 deaths and dozens of other people injured.

The incident was triggered by a Green SM taxi stalling in the middle of the level crossing due to an electrical system fault. The vehicle was then struck by a passing KRL train.

As a result of the initial accident, one KRL train bound for Cikarang made an emergency stop at Bekasi Timur Station.

In that stopped position, the KRL train was then hit from behind by the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek.
