Korlantas Evaluation of 2026 Homecoming Traffic: Travellers Increase, Accidents Decrease
Korlantas Police Chief Irjen Pol Agus Suryonugroho revealed the results of the analysis and evaluation of Operation Ketupat 2026, which secured this year’s Eid homecoming and return flows.
In a statement received on Wednesday (1/4), he stated that Polri recorded a green report with a significant reduction in accident fatality rates amid the surge in homecoming and return traffic.
The evaluation data shows a sharp decline in the number of fatalities (MD) by 31.19 per cent, or 136 lives fewer compared to last year’s Eid period.
Overall, he said, the number of traffic accident cases also decreased by 6.31 per cent from 3,754 cases to 3,517 cases. A decline was also recorded in the category of serious injuries (LB) by 13.8 per cent. This proves that preventive steps and the readiness of officers in the field have successfully suppressed the severity of accidents on homecoming routes.
During the period from 13 to 29 March 2026, vehicle movements at Jakarta’s main toll gates were monitored as very massive. Outbound traffic from Jakarta reached 3,255,002 vehicles, up 18.43 per cent from normal conditions. Inbound traffic to Jakarta reached 2,989,931 vehicles, up 10.79 per cent from normal conditions.
Agus, who attended the Evaluation of Operation Ketupat 2026, conveyed a message of appreciation and instructions from Police Chief General Pol Listyo Sigit Prabowo to the Korlantas Polri ranks.
“Conveyed thanks and the highest appreciation for the success of Operation Ketupat 2026, which was directly conveyed by the Police Chief this afternoon,” Agus said to his ranks on Wednesday.
According to Agus, the Police Chief assessed that the implementation of securing Eid homecoming and return flows in 2026 generally proceeded positively. He appreciated the reduction in traffic accident figures and the improvement in the smoothness of homecoming and return flows. According to him, this success is inseparable from the close inter-sectoral synergy and collaboration during the operation.
Agus asked all Korlantas Polri ranks, from dirlantas to kasat lantas, to follow up on the Police Chief’s instructions. He also urged them to continue maintaining positive momentum by prioritising services that touch the hearts of the community, or humanistic.
According to Agus, post-homecoming and return security, it is important for traffic ranks to continue upholding the honour of the Polri institution. He instructed the use of dialogic methods and a super humanistic approach in carrying out daily duties in interacting with drivers.
According to him, public traffic awareness is not only built through law enforcement but also through gentle education.
“Through dialogues, super humanistic to create traffic awareness and create kamseltibcarlantas [traffic security, safety, order, and smoothness],” he said.
Traveller Compliance and Flow Smoothness
In that statement, Agus—quoting the Police Chief—explained that the compliance rate of homecomers returning to Jakarta was also quite high.
Around 88.1 per cent of the total projected vehicles had returned to the capital region by the end of the operation period.
In addition, the smoothness of this year’s homecoming and return flows was supported by 285 traffic engineering interventions carried out by Korlantas Polri. The details are: flow diversions 205 times, contraflow: 39 times, local precision one way 39 times, and national precision one way 2 times.
The public transport sector also experienced a significant increase in passengers across all modes.
The highest increase occurred in the port sector by 15.51 per cent or 5.52 million passengers, followed by terminals at 11.41 per cent, stations at 8.06 per cent, and airports at 6.99 per cent.
The success of Operation Ketupat 2026, according to the Police Chief, is also inseparable from various stimuli from the Indonesian President Prabowo’s government, ranging from toll and public transport fare discounts, free homecoming programmes, to the Work from Anywhere (WFA) and Work from Home (WFH) policies.
According to him, these policies have proven effective in dispersing traffic density concentrations. The firm implementation of the Joint Decree (SKB) restricting three-axle and above goods transport also had a significant impact.
