The Directorate General of Sea Transportation under the Ministry of Transportation, through the Class III Korido Port Operating Unit (KUPP), has partnered with the Papua Provincial Government to develop the Detail Engineering Design (DED) for Korido Port.

This collaboration aims to strengthen logistics and port services in the Frontline, Outermost, Remote, and Border Areas (3TP) via short-term port development. The initiative involves the Transportation Agency, Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency, and the Regional Development Planning, Research, and Innovation Agency.

Technical research and field inspections were led by Papua Governor Matius Derek Fakhiri alongside technical teams from the relevant agencies at the pier, commercial areas, and Korido Port Operating Unit office in South Supiori District on 22 May 2026.

Governor Fakhiri described the collaboration as historic, marking the first such partnership within the provincial government for port DED development. He stated that Korido Port’s development is expected to bolster logistics and maritime transport routes in Papua, particularly in Supiori, part of the 3TP region. A productive port, he added, would create strong connectivity to support sustainable economic growth, with maritime sector strengthening integral to achieving a smart, prosperous, and harmonious Papua.

Class III Korido Port Operating Unit Head Willem Thobias Fofid highlighted the port’s strategic role in the Pacific as a logistics gateway and economic driver for northern Papua’s islands. He explained that pier extensions would enhance operational capacity for large vessels, while new canteen, passenger terminal, walkway, and commercial facilities would improve comfort for both passengers and local businesses.

“Geographical challenges often hinder accessibility and connectivity, so the development of Korido Port, including pier extension to increase operational capacity for large vessels, along with the construction of a canteen, passenger terminal, walkway areas, and commercial zones, will enhance comfort for passengers and local businesses,” Fofid said in a written statement on 24 May 2026.
