        "content": "<p>The Directorate General of Sea Transportation under the Ministry of\nTransportation, through the Class III Korido Port Operating Unit (KUPP),\nhas partnered with the Papua Provincial Government to develop the Detail\nEngineering Design (DED) for Korido Port.<\/p>\n<p>This collaboration aims to strengthen logistics and port services in\nthe Frontline, Outermost, Remote, and Border Areas (3TP) via short-term\nport development. The initiative involves the Transportation Agency,\nPublic Works and Spatial Planning Agency, and the Regional Development\nPlanning, Research, and Innovation Agency.<\/p>\n<p>Technical research and field inspections were led by Papua Governor\nMatius Derek Fakhiri alongside technical teams from the relevant\nagencies at the pier, commercial areas, and Korido Port Operating Unit\noffice in South Supiori District on 22 May 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Fakhiri described the collaboration as historic, marking the\nfirst such partnership within the provincial government for port DED\ndevelopment. He stated that Korido Port\u2019s development is expected to\nbolster logistics and maritime transport routes in Papua, particularly\nin Supiori, part of the 3TP region. A productive port, he added, would\ncreate strong connectivity to support sustainable economic growth, with\nmaritime sector strengthening integral to achieving a smart, prosperous,\nand harmonious Papua.<\/p>\n<p>Class III Korido Port Operating Unit Head Willem Thobias Fofid\nhighlighted the port\u2019s strategic role in the Pacific as a logistics\ngateway and economic driver for northern Papua\u2019s islands. He explained\nthat pier extensions would enhance operational capacity for large\nvessels, while new canteen, passenger terminal, walkway, and commercial\nfacilities would improve comfort for both passengers and local\nbusinesses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGeographical challenges often hinder accessibility and connectivity,\nso the development of Korido Port, including pier extension to increase\noperational capacity for large vessels, along with the construction of a\ncanteen, passenger terminal, walkway areas, and commercial zones, will\nenhance comfort for passengers and local businesses,\u201d Fofid said in a\nwritten statement on 24 May 2026.<\/p>",
