Korean association seeks protection

JAKARTA (JP): A city-based foundation for the Korean community has sought police protection following the occupation of its land and building by a former foundation executive.

Established on a plot covering 6,500 square meters at Ceger, Pasar Rebo subdistrict, East Jakarta, the PNIEL Foundation is sponsored by around 30,000 Korean citizens in the capital and is actively engaged in education, social and religious activities.

Lawyers for the foundation's new chief Lee Moo Chan, Haeri Parani and Wardaya, told Antara on Sunday that they had complained about the control of PNIEL's facilities by former foundation leader David Sungin Han to police headquarters.

To settle the case, the foundation had filed a lawsuit against Han with the East Jakarta District Court to ensure speedy resumption of its activities, the lawyers added.
