KontraS to Send Legal Team to Monitor Andrie Yunus Case Hearing in Military Court
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS) has emphasised that it will not be directly involved in the trial of the Andrie Yunus case in military court.
Nevertheless, KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya stated that his organisation will still monitor the proceedings from afar.
He noted that broadcasts and media coverage would serve as one of the primary sources for following developments in the trial process.
“So, that is probably where we will observe the process during the military court proceedings,” Dimas said when met in Kalibata, Pancoran, South Jakarta, on Friday (24/4/2026).
In addition to monitoring via media, KontraS will also dispatch a legal team to follow the case’s progress.
“That he (Andrie) does not trust the existing legal process in the military, including the military court,” he said.
In fact, Andrie is said to have previously expressed a vote of no confidence in the military court handling his case.
According to Dimas, KontraS’s experience in following various trials within the military court system has led it to assess that the process does not fully guarantee justice.
Furthermore, he highlighted the lack of transparency in the TNI’s handling of this case, including the failure to fully disclose the perpetrators’ identities to the public.
“KontraS is pushing for revisions to the military court law because we have witnessed and recorded many verdicts in military courts that are far from just,” Dimas stated.
The incident occurred around 23:37 WIB when Andrie was riding his motorbike on Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Senen, Central Jakarta.
As he passed the location, two perpetrators riding a motorbike, allegedly a Honda Beat, approached the victim from the opposite direction on Jalan Talang (Jembatan Talang).
One of the perpetrators then threw a strong acid liquid towards the victim, striking parts of his body.
