KONI needs Rp 4.5 billion

JAKARTA (JP): The National Sports Council (KONI) will need Rp
4.5 billion ($1.9 million) to take part in this year's Olympic
Games in Atlanta.

KONI treasurer Setia Novanto told reporters on Friday that 40
percent of the estimated sum will be spent on preparing
Indonesian athletes for the Summer Games in a centralized,
intensive training camp which will begin next month.

KONI has so far received a donation of Rp 1.6 billion from
Citibank to finance its preparation for the Games and is still on
the prowl for more donation.

According to KONI training director M. Hindarto, KONI would
send 80 athletes from 10 sports to Atlanta. (arf)
