Kompolnas Finds New CCTV Footage in Makassar Police Shooting of a Teenager Bertrand Eko Prasetyo
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The National Police Commission (Kompolnas) has found CCTV footage offering a different vantage point in the shooting case that killed 18-year-old Bertrand Eko Prasetyo in Makassar, South Sulawesi.
Commissioner Choirul Anam said the agency conducted direct monitoring in Makassar for the past two days to examine the incident more closely.
‘There is CCTV footage not circulating publicly that also proves how the incident unfolded. And we obtained it, so there is footage with a different perspective that is new to the sequence of events,’ Anam told Kompas.com on Thursday (5/3/2026).
‘The perspective is correct, and we obtained that video. It is something new that illuminates the incident on that Sunday morning,’ he said.
From the footage viewed by Kompolnas, Anam said the scene indicates a social issue—a group of teenagers on the street and the presence of police at the location.
Anam said that, based on an initial review of the footage, the shots fired did not appear to be aimed at the victim specifically.
‘From the CCTV we have seen, the shooting was not aimed or targeted at him,’ he said.
Nevertheless, he stressed that further analysis is required using a scientific approach so the incident can be explained transparently and objectively.
‘We hope it can be studied with a much more sophisticated, scientific approach. So that it becomes clearer, more transparent,’ Anam said.
During the visit, Kompolnas met the victim’s family, inspected the crime scene, and spoke with the forensic doctor who performed the autopsy.
In addition, Anam said he also met with the shooter and colleagues from Propam and Reskrim.
He said the latest development is that the police officer involved has been designated as a suspect.
This step is seen as a positive signal in handling cases involving police officers.
‘This is a positive step by the regional police to demonstrate how to handle an incident involving police officers,’ he said.
