Kompolnas Finds CCTV Recording Police Officer Accidentally Shooting Teen in Makassar
Makassar — The National Police Commission (Kompolnas) says it has obtained CCTV footage relating to the shooting incident allegedly carried out by Iptu N against Bertrand Eko Prasetyo in Makassar, South Sulawesi (Sulsel). Kompolnas commissioner Mohammad Choirul Anam revealed that from preliminary analysis the footage shows Iptu N discharged a shot without aiming at Bertrand.
Iptu N shot Bertrand, resulting in the death of the 18-year-old, on Sunday (1 March 2026) last. Kompolnas, according to Anam, since Monday (2 March 2026) has been in Makassar carrying out on-site checks.
Kompolnas also met with the victim’s family, and Iptu N who has become a suspect in the shooting. According to Anam, Kompolnas also obtained a copy of the CCTV recording the incident. But Anam said the CCTV obtained by Kompolnas differs from what has circulated publicly. He said the CCTV viewed by Kompolnas provides a different perspective on the incident.
“We obtained CCTV, with a different perspective, clearer and brighter, illustrating the event and its surrounding environment,” Anam said in an audio press statement received by journalists in Jakarta, on Thursday (5 March 2026).
Anam said that from the preliminary analysis of the CCTV footage, there appears to be a social situation with children on the street. “And there are police officers continuously visible in the CCTV,” he added.
The CCTV footage viewed by Kompolnas also recorded the shooting itself. “From the CCTV, as far as we can tell, the shot was not aimed at, nor directed towards (the victim),” Anam said.
He said that the existence of additional CCTV recording the incident may help make the case more transparent and objective. Moreover, the police have named Iptu N as a suspect.
“Regarding the case status, the perpetrator (Iptu N) has now been named a suspect. And that is a positive step by the South Sulawesi Regional Police to demonstrate the police’s seriousness in bringing this to a resolution,” he said.
