Komnas HAM Sends Letter to TNI Requesting Permission to Examine Suspects in Andrie Yunus Case
The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has sent a letter to the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to examine four suspects in the acid attack case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus.
Komnas HAM Monitoring and Investigation Commissioner Saurlin P. Siagian explained that the letter was sent to the TNI.
“We are still waiting to obtain access to examine the four suspects,” he said at the Komnas HAM building in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4).
Komnas HAM, he added, is requesting statements from the suspects. The aim is to delve deeper into new facts with comparative data from information obtained from various parties.
Coordinator of the Komnas HAM Subcommission on Human Rights Enforcement, Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi, stated that they had summoned the TNI Military Police Centre (Puspom) on Wednesday (1/4) to coordinate on the case’s developments.
“One of the things we requested is for the investigation process at Puspom to proceed transparently,” said Pramono.
He stated that Komnas HAM requested three things, one of which is to be granted access to meet the perpetrators.
It is hoped that the examination can be conducted on Friday (10/4). However, this is still awaiting approval from Puspom TNI.
