The government has revealed that Indonesia now possesses a national data centre (NDC) with a substantial capacity to support the country’s digital transformation. Aju Widya Sari, Director of Artificial Intelligence and New Technology Ecosystem at the Ministry of Communications and Digital, said the NDC currently has a capacity of 25,000 CPU cores with memory of 200 terabytes (TB) and storage capacity of 40 petabytes (PB). In addition, the centre is supported by electricity capacity of 5.2 megawatts (MW). The government has also prepared additional electricity capacity that can be used up to 20 MW. Aju added that the government also targets building two more national data centres in the future. “The government also aims to build two more national data centres, in Batam and at IKN,” he said in a speech at the National Forum: Indonesia Digital Leap, Accelerating the Data Centre, AI, and Cyber Security Ecosystem for National Economic Growth in Jakarta on Wednesday (20 May 2026). Beyond the NDC, Indonesia currently has around 180 data centres with a capacity of 0.74 watts per capita. The government aims to increase national data centre capacity to 6.87 watts per capita by 2029. The government also stated that Indonesia already possesses various regulations governing data governance and cybersecurity. These rules include laws, government regulations, presidential regulations, ministerial regulations, and agency regulations to strengthen the national digital ecosystem.
