Kodim Banyuwangi targets construction of 12 Garuda Perintis suspension bridges
Banyuwangi (ANTARA) - The Military District Command (Kodim) 0825/Banyuwangi, East Java, targets the construction of 12 Garuda Perintis suspension bridges in the easternmost regency of Java island.
“Our target is 12 Garuda Perintis suspension bridges that we have proposed to our superiors, and we will build them gradually at various points that require these bridges,” said Commander of Kodim (Dandim) 0825/Banyuwangi Lieutenant Colonel (Army) Triyadi Indrawijaya in his statement in Banyuwangi on Wednesday.
According to him, the command is currently building a Garuda Perintis suspension bridge in Songgon Village/Sub-district, and the 45-metre bridge is being constructed over the Binau River, connecting Krajan Hamlet and Gumuk Candi Hamlet in the village.
Dandim Triyadi continued that the suspension bridge will serve as access for residents of the two hamlets after the previous concrete bridge collapsed due to a flash flood in 2025.
He stated that the bridge’s disruption has hindered residents’ mobility, forcing them to build temporary bamboo bridges to support daily activities.
He explained that the construction sites for the Garuda Perintis suspension bridges are prioritised in areas most in need and those not yet reached by permanent bridge developments.
“The suspension bridge in Songgon Village has a width of 1.6 metres, allowing two-wheeled vehicles carrying agricultural produce and other goods to pass, and we target completion by the end of April 2026,” he said.
The construction of the bridge in Songgon Village/Sub-district is the second suspension bridge, following the previous one built and operational in Seneporejo Village, Siliragung Sub-district.
Deputy Regent of Banyuwangi Mujiono appreciated the bridge construction by the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) as it brings significant benefits to the community.
“This is a manifestation of collaboration and synergy between the TNI, Police, local government, and village government in providing the best services, especially to meet the basic needs of the community,” he said.
