Known for Frequent Clashes, Elon Musk and Zuckerberg Secretly Reconcile Behind the Scenes
The relationship between two technology leaders, Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk, has often appeared strained. Several years ago, they even made headlines with discussions of a duel in the ring. However, recent documents suggest that their rapport has warmed in recent times. This is evident from court documents filed on 27 March, which reveal that Musk secretly invited Zuckerberg to participate in buying OpenAI. The information comes from a conversation reportedly occurring in early 2025. The conversation began with a text message allegedly sent by Zuckerberg on 3 February 2025. In the message, the Meta boss expressed support for Musk’s work while leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). At that time, Musk’s position at DOGE was reportedly beginning to waver before he was said to have resigned in May 2025. In his message, Zuckerberg assessed that DOGE appeared to be making progress. He also stated that he had asked his team to monitor and address content involving doxxing or threats against Musk’s DOGE team. Zuckerberg reportedly responded by expressing a desire to discuss the matter in person. Musk promised to contact him the following day. Other documents in the same case also reveal similar efforts. Musk reportedly invited Zuckerberg to get involved in purchasing OpenAI assets. Nevertheless, Zuckerberg reportedly never signed the offer, as summarised by KompasTekno from the Times of India. In documents filed by OpenAI in court, it is stated that on 21 August 2025, Musk listed Zuckerberg as one of the parties he communicated with regarding the Letter of Intent (LOI) or statement of interest, related to potential financing or investment in OpenAI. However, the documents again do not include Zuckerberg’s or Meta’s signature. In recent years, Musk has indeed been involved in legal disputes with OpenAI, a company he supported in its early days. In 2024, for example, Musk sued OpenAI’s founders, Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, along with related entities. He accused them of betraying the organisation’s original principles. According to Musk, OpenAI was originally established as a non-profit organisation developing artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity, not for commercial profit.
