KNKT Reveals Two Factors Behind the Prevalence of Accidents Involving Commercial Vehicles
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) has revealed that accidents involving commercial vehicles in Indonesia continue to occur frequently due to human factors and neglect in the maintenance of the operational vehicles used. There is a clear need for firmness from companies and commercial vehicle manufacturers in Indonesia to provide education on the importance of regular vehicle maintenance. “Based on KNKT’s investigation results, human factors remain the main cause of accidents. In addition, vehicle conditions and operational systems also play a role,” said Senior Investigator Ahmad Wildan in his official statement in Jakarta on Friday. Meanwhile, Training Division Head of HMSI, Pieter Andre, explained that drivers bear significant responsibility, so his side provides driving safety education activities for commercial vehicle drivers. “Ongoing training will enhance competence, safety awareness, and driving efficiency. Additionally, good vehicle maintenance management ensures vehicles are always roadworthy and safety features function optimally,” said Pieter Andre. The involvement and collaboration between parties such as ATPM (Assemblers, Producers, Importers, and Distributors), regulators, and operators are key to the success of reducing accident rates caused by commercial vehicles in Indonesia. Director of Business Development and Organisation at PO Primajasa, Bayu Permana, also explained that driver recruitment cannot be done arbitrarily. There needs to be strict selection to reduce similar incidents in the future. “We are also improving maintenance standards according to ATPM standards, from workshop procedures, facilities, to enhancing mechanic competence and providing vehicle inspectors,” he said.
