KLH and West Java Provincial Government Agree to Accelerate Construction of PSEL in Bandung and Bogor-Depok
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq and West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi have confirmed the acceleration of the construction of Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) facilities in the Greater Bandung and Bogor-Depok areas as part of efforts to curb waste generation. The acceleration was assured through the signing of cooperation agreements between the West Java Governor and eight mayors/regents across West Java, witnessed by the Environment Minister at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLH) office in Jakarta on Tuesday. “We express our deepest gratitude for the swift response from the West Java Provincial Government and all its regencies/cities to the directive from the esteemed President Prabowo Subianto to manage waste into renewable energy or electricity, which we call PSEL or waste-to-energy,” said Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq. The commitment from the provincial and regency/city governments in West Java complies with Presidential Regulation No. 109 of 2025 on Urban Waste Management into Environmentally Friendly Renewable Energy Technology, which mandates PSEL construction for areas with minimum daily waste generation of 1,000 tonnes. The Environment Minister hopes that the signing will expedite the PSEL construction process in both regions. On the same occasion, West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi stated that the acceleration of PSEL construction in the two areas is expected to help address the long-standing waste problem that has consumed significant budgets. “With allocation to two locations in Bogor and West Bandung Regency, the effectiveness will focus on those regencies/cities— in my view, first on sanitation sweepers, second on transporters carrying waste, even third parties for greater efficiency. This will lighten our bureaucratic management activities, allowing locations to be shifted for other infrastructure interests,” said Governor Dedi Mulyadi. “Thus, today is a moment of joy; as West Java Governor and the regents/mayors, over the next three years, we will have waste energy turned into electricity— in my words, waste disappears, lights shine,” added West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi.
