KL supplies gas to Taiwan
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysia's national oil and gas firm, Petronas, said yesterday it had started a long-term supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Taiwan under a 20-year agreement.
The first cargo of LNG for Taipei's Chinese Petroleum Corp. departed from Malaysia's eastern Sarawak state on Friday and was expected to arrive in Kaoshiung, Taiwan, on Wednesday, Petronas said in a statement.
Petronas's gas unit, Malaysia LNG, signed an agreement on March 22 with Chinese Petroleum to supply 2.25 million tons of LNG a year to the Taiwanese company for a period of 20 years.
Petronas said Chinese Petroleum was its first long-term customer in Taiwan and the shipment Friday was also significant because it was the first output from its new LNG plant in Bintulu, Sarawak.
