KL man eyes world record
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): A Malaysian man will attempt to set a world record by pedaling a trishaw 6,000 kilometers across the continent to Nanjing, China.
Sitdek Ahmad Ali, 43, set a local record last year for pulling a rickshaw 2,280 kilometers across peninsula Malaysia, according to The Star newspaper on Monday.
On May 26, Sitdek will set off from Malacca on a 134-day expedition that will also take him to Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam before reaching Nanjing, it said.
Sitdek, the owner of a small plantation, was quoted as saying he hoped to promote tourism for Malaysia during his trip. Apart from mental preparation and physical fitness, the father of 10 said family support was also vital for his journey.
Two of his friends will accompany him in a van to navigate the route and repair the trishaw if it breaks down, he added.
