KKP Partners with E-Commerce to Boost Digital Literacy for KNMP Managers
JAKARTA – The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is partnering with one of the local marketplace platforms or e-commerce to expand market access while providing financial literacy to the managers of Red White Fishermen’s Villages (KNMP). Through a national webinar titled “From Financial Literacy to Digital Markets: Strategies to Elevate Fishery Businesses”, cooperative managers are encouraged to produce competitive products and manage businesses professionally.
Acting Director General of the Directorate General for Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fishery Products (PDSPKP), Machmud, stressed that this collaboration is part of the strategy to develop KNMP as a priority programme aimed at building a business ecosystem at the village and production centre levels. In this context, enhancing the capacity of business actors is key so that fishery outputs not only increase in volume but also add value and directly impact the income of coastal communities.
“The main challenge for fishery business actors is not only in production aspects but also in business management. Many businesses are actually running but have not developed because their financial management is not yet organised,” said Machmud in a written statement in Jakarta on Sunday (12/4/2026).
Machmud views understanding of financial literacy and access to digital markets as important factors in strengthening business capacity, especially for MSMEs in coastal areas.
According to him, with more organised business management and broader market access, business actors can not only increase production but also create added value, obtain better prices, and expand marketing reach sustainably.
He assured that the strengthening efforts by KKP do not stop at online activities and will continue through direct mentoring and training at Red White Fishermen’s Village locations.
“Of course, so that business actors can implement financial literacy and the use of digital platforms in a real way according to their business conditions,” said Machmud.
He conveyed that in the digital era, e-commerce platforms are no longer an option but a necessity. Understanding financial literacy can start from simple steps such as separating business and personal finances and routinely recording transactions. In addition, the utilisation of digital technology is considered an important factor in driving market expansion.
“Through digital platforms, fishery business actors have the opportunity to expand markets to the national and even international levels,” said Machmud.
Meanwhile, Head of Corporate Affairs at Shopee Indonesia, Satrya Pinandita, appreciated the opportunity given by KKP to Shopee to be directly involved in this activity.
According to him, KKP’s steps in strengthening the capacity of cooperative managers in KNMP, especially through digital platforms, align with Shopee’s commitment to enhancing the digital capacity of Indonesian society.
