KJRI Jeddah: 10,060 Umrah Pilgrims Arrive in Indonesia, 2,278 More to Follow
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) Jeddah said that 10,060 Umrah pilgrims have arrived in Indonesia amid escalating security concerns in the Middle East. ‘Total pilgrims returning from 28 February 2026 to 3 March 2026 amounted to 10,060 pilgrims,’ said Muhammad Ilham Effendy, Technical Staff for Hajj Affairs at KJRI Jeddah, in a press statement on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. As of 3 March 2026 at 23:40 local time, 2,278 Umrah pilgrims were in the process of returning via King Abdulaziz International Airport, Jeddah. Ilham said supervision is carried out directly by the Technical Staff for Hajj Affairs and Umrah at KJRI Jeddah across all service areas for pilgrims, particularly Terminal 1 and the Hajj Terminal. ‘This is part of the country’s commitment to ensuring maximum protection for all pilgrims,’ he said. ‘We ensure all pilgrims receive direct assistance, from check-in to departure. The country is present to provide protection, especially for pilgrims facing flight disruptions,’ Ilham added. Ilham added that they will remain on 24-hour standby so that no pilgrims feel left behind during the repatriation process. ‘We remain on 24-hour alert. The principle is that no pilgrim should feel left behind. Protection and assistance are duties we carry out in full,’ he emphasised. ‘The pilgrims are spread across the cities of Jeddah and Mecca, with the main difficulties in onward flight schedules and in coordinating visas and connecting flights,’ he said. Therefore, the KJRI Jeddah, through the Hajj Affairs Technical Team, maintains ongoing coordination with airlines to ensure certainty of departure schedules. Additionally, the KJRI Jeddah ensures the provision of meals and basic needs for pilgrims still awaiting flights. Ilham said that they are also coordinating with travel agents and the visa responsible parties to expedite administrative processing and 24-hour monitoring to anticipate potential crowding of pilgrims.
