Kuningan, West Java (ANTARA) - The Central Information Commission (KIP) has affirmed that information regarding the forestry sector and natural disasters falls under the category of immediate information that must be disclosed promptly to the public, as it pertains to the livelihood interests of many people.

Deputy Chairman of the KIP, Arya Sandiyudha, in Kuningan, West Java, on Tuesday, explained that in accordance with the mandate of Law No. 14 of 2008 on Public Information Disclosure, public bodies are prohibited from delaying the delivery of information that could threaten public safety or broader societal interests.

“So when we talk about forests, the Ministry of Forestry actually has the opportunity to become the leading sector; it can even become the most advanced or superior public body, the most active in providing immediate information services,” said Arya during the discussion forum “Synergy of Indonesian Women for Indonesia FOLU NET SINK 2030” at Mount Ciremai National Park.

He explained that “immediate” means that as soon as the ministry becomes aware of the information, the public must know about it at that very moment. In the context of forestry, issues such as the status of active volcanoes or the environmental impacts of forest damage are livelihood-related information that must be conveyed actively.

In this way, he stressed that providing information services directly from public bodies is crucial to stem disinformation and misinformation in society. Meanwhile, the absence of official information often creates gaps for public misunderstandings, especially during disasters or controversial environmental issues.

Similarly, the utilisation of digital technology and adaptive communication strategies is considered key to ensuring that public information is not only available on websites but is truly accessed by the public.

“Public bodies are the parties that best understand the situation on the ground. By taking an active role in explaining every policy and crisis that occurs, the ministry can ensure that the public does not fall into misconceptions and instead becomes a partner in preserving nature,” he emphasised.

The Synergy of Indonesian Women for Indonesia’s FOLU Net Sink 2030 event was held from 11-13 May 2026 in the Mount Ciremai National Park area, Kuningan, West Java.

The event was attended by representatives from several ministries and government agencies from public relations bureaus, as well as several conservation institutions and national journalists.
