Kim supports IMF term
SEOUL (Reuters): South Korea's president-elect Kim Dae-jung yesterday reassured the United States of his commitment to the terms and conditions of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) aid package, an official at Kim's party said.
Kim also asked the United States to support South Korea's efforts to overcome the economic crisis, said vice-spokesman Yoon Ho-jung of the National Congress for New Politics Party.
Kim made the comments to the U.S. Ambassador to Seoul Steven Bosworth and Deputy Treasury Secretary David Lipton when they met him for a courtesy call.
Since winning the presidential election last Thursday, Kim has said repeatedly his government would faithfully abide by the terms and conditions attached to the record $60-billion IMF-led bailout package.
