Kicked Out by Trump, US Advanced Weapons Supplier Sought to be Hosted by This Country
A conflict between the Donald Trump administration and Anthropic, a supplier of advanced AI ‘weapons’, presents an opportunity for the United Kingdom. The country is attempting to persuade Anthropic to expand its presence in the UK.
The UK government has submitted a proposal to Anthropic covering various aspects, from office expansion in London to dual stock listings, according to a Financial Times report based on statements from several sources, cited from Reuters on Monday (6/4/2026).
Anthropic and the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s office has supported the department’s work, which will be presented to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei during his visit at the end of May, according to the FT.
The US government has placed Anthropic on a blacklist, designating the company as a national security supply chain risk. Previously, Anthropic had been a supplier of AI ‘tools’ to the US military.
The conflict escalated when Anthropic refused to allow the US military to use its Claude AI chatbot to create autonomous weapons or monitor US citizens.
Trump reacted angrily, labelling Anthropic a ‘left-wing woke’ company that endangers the lives of US citizens. Nevertheless, the Wall Street Journal reported that Anthropic’s AI tools were actually still used in the war against Iran on 28 February 2026.
A US judge has temporarily blocked the US blacklist, and Anthropic has a second ongoing lawsuit regarding the supply chain risk designation.
