Surabaya (ANTARA) - The Chair of the Central Board of the Universitas Airlangga Alumni Family Association (IKA Unair), Khofifah Indar Parawansa, is encouraging the role of alumni in equalising quality healthcare services through contributions of medical personnel and strengthening the national health education system.

“This country’s health education began with a hospital-based approach, then shifted to university-based. However, it is not easy to decide between hospital-based and university-based, and currently the government through the Ministry of Health will add a hospital-based formula without reducing the university-based portion,” she said in a statement received in Surabaya, East Java, on Sunday.

“There is an agreed standard on how to measure the Human Development Index (HDI) by looking at the map of quality service distribution, especially the presence of specialist doctors at various points, particularly in the 4T areas that have long experienced healthcare service disparities,” she stated.

According to her, there are still areas that do not have certain specialist doctors, indicating disparities in health personnel distribution and impacting the quality of public healthcare services.

“Guarding the Unitary Republic of Indonesia in various ways will serve as a fence that the HDI receives attention because good education, health, and welfare will reduce poverty and unemployment,” she said.

Khofifah emphasised the importance of maintaining a balance between hospital-based and university-based approaches in the health personnel education system to produce competent medical personnel while ensuring even distribution.

“It is important to maintain a balance between hospital-based and university-based to give birth to equitable quality healthcare services that are felt evenly,” she said.
