Khofifah Holds Inclusive Quran Completion Ceremony with Deaf Disabled Community
Surabaya – East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa held a Quran completion ceremony (khotmil Quran) for Ramadhan 1447 Hijriah on Friday evening (13 March) at Grahadi State Building in Surabaya, bringing together regional officials and the Sobat Dili (Deaf Disabilities Recitation) community.
“This Quran completion activity involving regional office heads is held regularly each Ramadhan. Let us together improve the quality of our spiritual life during this holy month,” Khofifah said.
The Quran completion ceremony was conducted through alternate recitation of Quranic verses beginning from the 30th chapter (Juz 30) by regional officials from the East Java provincial government. The recitation began with the Acting General Administration Assistant, followed by Khofifah, a representative of the East Java Branch Leadership of the Fatayat Nahdlatul Ulama women’s organisation, and the Sobat Dili community reciting together.
The event served as an opportunity to strengthen spiritual values whilst affirming the East Java provincial government’s commitment to building inclusive religious spaces for all sectors of society. Khofifah emphasised that joint spiritual activities not only strengthen working relationships between regional agencies but also remind people of the importance of making the Quran a guide for life.
During the event, Khofifah distributed dates to members of the Sobat Dili community as fast-breaking refreshments. She also presented Qurans endowed by Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to several regional officials and managing directors of regional state enterprises who contributed to distributing social assistance and Ramadhan charitable activities across various districts and cities in East Java.
Maskurun (Yuyun), chairperson of the Movement for the Welfare of Deaf Indonesians East Java and founder of Sobat Tuli Quran House, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the event.
“Alhamdulillah, this event is truly extraordinary. This is the first time my friends and I have recited the Quran at Grahadi. Thank you to Mrs Khofifah for giving us the opportunity, we deaf friends,” she said.
Yuyun expressed hope that activities involving disabled communities in religious events such as this would continue to be held as a demonstration of commitment to inclusivity within society.
“We hope that activities like this will continue in the years ahead,” she added.
