Khofifah assures secure and affordable food staple supply in Gresik
The East Java provincial government is committed to maximising price stabilisation and inflation control whilst ensuring affordability for the public through both supply availability and pricing.
Gresik – Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa has ensured the availability and affordability of basic food staples for Gresik residents through a subsidised market programme ahead of Eid 1447 Hijriah, as a measure to control regional inflation and stabilise strategic food prices.
“Through this subsidised market programme, it is hoped to serve as a complementary measure in efforts to control basic staple prices during this significant religious holiday,” said Governor Khofifah on Sunday.
The subsidised market, held at Pudak Gallery grounds in Gresik Regency, forms part of the East Java Provincial Government’s efforts to maintain price stability whilst ensuring basic staples remain affordable in the lead-up to Eid.
Khofifah believes subsidised markets are effective in maximising price stabilisation and inflation control, whilst ensuring the public obtains basic necessities at more affordable prices.
“The provincial government wants to maximise price stabilisation and inflation control, whilst ensuring affordability for the public both in terms of supply availability and pricing,” she said.
According to her, the subsidised market is one of the East Java provincial government’s priorities in maintaining price stability for basic necessities and ensuring the public can purchase essentials at lower prices compared to traditional market rates.
“Indeed, the provincial government’s subsidised market is quite heavily subsidised. For instance, if eggs are priced at IDR 30,000 in traditional markets, here they cost IDR 22,000 per kilogram. If chicken is already IDR 42,000, we sell it here for IDR 30,000,” she said.
“The East Java provincial government’s strategy has actually been welcomed enthusiastically by the public, evident from the fact that the subsidised market is always crowded wherever it is held,” she added.
Through this programme, residents can purchase various basic necessities at lower prices than traditional markets, including premium rice at IDR 14,000 per kilogram, medium rice at IDR 11,000 per kilogram, MinyaKita cooking oil at IDR 13,000 per litre, chicken eggs at IDR 22,000 per pack, and wheat flour at IDR 10,000 per kilogram.
Additionally, sugar is available at IDR 14,000 per kilogram, garlic at IDR 6,000 per 250 grams, shallots at IDR 7,000 per 250 grams, chilli packets at IDR 5,000 per 200 grams, and chicken meat at IDR 30,000 per pack.
