Khalid Basalamah Claims to Be a Victim in Hajj Quota Corruption Case
Jakarta – The owner of the hajj travel agency PT Zahra Oto Mandiri or Uhud Tour, Khalid Zeed Abdullah Basalamah or Khalid Basalamah, has described himself as a victim in the alleged corruption case involving hajj quotas.
Khalid emphasised this during his examination at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in South Jakarta on Thursday, 23 April 2026.
Khalid initially recounted that he communicated with PT Muhibbah in Pekanbaru. According to Khalid, Uhud Tour provided furoda hajj services. However, PT Muhibbah offered special hajj quotas.
“Originally, PT Zahra was purely for furoda. Then PT Muhibbah came along; we had already paid for the hotel there and the visa, and suddenly PT Muhibbah offered it under the pretext of an official visa. That’s why we all registered with PT Muhibbah, and we have handed over all that data to the KPK,” Khalid told reporters, as quoted on Friday, 24 April 2026.
On that occasion, Khalid also stressed that he never interacted with the former Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas or his former special staff member Gus Alex.
“So we only went as far as that; we never knew about the Ministry of Religious Affairs or its staff, we never interacted with them at all,” he said.
“That’s why I describe us as victims,” Khalid explained.
It was previously reported that Khalid Basalamah had completed his examination as a witness in the hajj quota corruption case.
Khalid Basalamah claimed he was examined in his capacity as the chairman of a hajj association.
“I was called as a witness, called in my capacity as Chairman of the Mutiara Hajj Association,” Khalid told reporters at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in South Jakarta on Thursday, 23 April 2026.
He also claimed to have returned money amounting to Rp8.4 billion to the KPK related to this case.
“So PT Muhibbah returned the funds to us; we didn’t know what the money was for. The amount was around Rp8.4 billion or so. It was returned,” he explained.
Further, Khalid explained that the money was returned from PT Muhibbah, the party that offered hajj departures to Khalid’s travel agency.
