Kewek Bridge Targeted for Completion Before Christmas 2026
The National Road Implementation Unit (Satker PJN) for the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) has stated that the progress of the Kewek Bridge revitalisation in Yogyakarta currently stands at 42%. The Satker PJN is optimistic that the Kewek Bridge can be passed before the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holidays.
“We hope that it will be completed before Nataru. While the Provisional Handover (PHO) is scheduled for December, we are striving to ensure it can be used before the holiday period,” said the Head of Satker PJN DIY, Tisara Sita, when met by reporters in Kretek, Bantul, on Monday (14/09/2026).
“As of yesterday, 13 September 2026, the progress of the Kewek Bridge is 42%,” she added.
Tisara explained that completed works currently include the bore pile foundations. Bore piles are deep foundations in the form of long tubes inserted into the ground to support heavy structural loads.
“Currently, we are conducting what is known as the PDA test,” she said. The Pile Driving Analyzer (PDA) test is a dynamic testing method used on pile foundations to measure load-bearing capacity, structural integrity, and energy transfer efficiency.
“Once the testing is complete and the results are satisfactory, we will proceed with the reinforcement of the abutments,” she stated. Abutment reinforcement involves the assembly and installation of steel reinforcement within the bridge’s substructure. Additionally, work on the secant piles on the side of the structure has also been completed.
“We are targeting the girder erection—the process of lifting, moving, and installing the longitudinal beams onto supports such as pillars or abutments—for early October,” she said.
Previously, the National Road Implementation Unit (Satker PJN) for the Yogyakarta region disclosed the latest progress regarding the Kewek Bridge revitalisation project in Danurejan, Yogyakarta City. The Commitment Making Officer (PPK) 1.1 of Satker PJN DIY, Ersy Perdhana, noted that the construction work for the replacement of the Kewek Bridge is ongoing, with the target for completion remaining unchanged for the end of the year.
“The current progress involves the selection of providers using the E-Purchasing Mini Competition method,” Ersy said when contacted on Monday (20/04/2026).
“Physical work is planned to commence in May, with a completion target of late December,” he added.
Ersy further detailed the scope of the construction work for the Kewek Bridge replacement. Beyond the physical structure, the approach roads will also be refurbished. The existing bridge is being demolished to make way for a new structure featuring a girder beam system, measuring 30 metres in length and 16 metres in width, comprising 11 metres of asphalt and a 2.5 x 2-metre pavement for pedestrians.
“Furthermore, there will be repairs to the approach roads leading to the bridge and the construction of concrete Retaining Walls (DPT) along the riverbank,” Ersy concluded.
