Predicted peak mudik and balik Lebaran 2026
The Chief of Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo chaired a cross-sectoral meeting to prepare for smooth mudik and balik flows for Idul Fitri or Lebaran 2026. Sigit said the peak of mudik is expected to occur twice.
The meeting was held in the Mutiara Auditorium, STIK-PTIK Lemdiklat Polri, on Monday (2/3/2026). The meeting was also attended by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar, Minister of Trade Budi Santoso, and Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi. The Deputy Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces, the Head of BNPB, the Head of BMKG, and leaders of state-owned enterprises such as Pertamina, Jasa Marga, and Jasa Raharja were also present.
Sigit said the peak mudik in 2026 is predicted to occur twice. This aligns with the government’s policy of work-from-anywhere.
“The predicted peak of mudik (the first wave) is likely to occur on 14–15 March. The government will implement WFH, usually between 16 and 17 March. Meanwhile, the predicted peak of mudik (the second) is on 18–19 March,” General Sigit said.
He also noted that during that period there is Nyepi Day. Thus, crossing arrangements between East Java and Bali are required out of respect for Hindu communities.
Polri also predicts the peak balik Lebaran 2026 will occur twice. The first balik peak is expected on 24–25 March and the second on 28–29 March 2026.
“Then the predicted first balik peak is on 24 and 25 March, and the second peak on 28–29 March,” he added.
