REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The Jakarta Corruption Court (PN Tipikor) has found the defendant, M Kerry Adrianto Riza (MKAR) alias Kerry, guilty of committing corruption in the management of crude oil and refinery products at PT Pertamina’s sub-holding. For this verdict, the panel of judges at the PN Tipikor sentenced Kerry, the son of fugitive M Riza Chalid (MRC), to 15 years in prison.

“The defendant, Muhammad Kerry Adrianto, has been proven guilty of committing corruption together, as stated in the primary indictment,” said the panel of judges in the verdict read out during the hearing at the PN Tipikor, Jakarta, Friday (27/2/2026) early morning.

The panel of judges unanimously imposed a prison sentence on Kerry. “Therefore, the defendant, Muhammad Kerry Adrianto, is sentenced to 15 years in prison,” said the judge.

In its decision, the panel of judges also ordered Kerry to pay a fine of IDR 1 billion. The fine, the judge said in the ruling, must be paid within one month after the verdict becomes final and binding.

According to the judge, if the fine is not paid within the given period, Kerry’s assets may be seized and auctioned off to pay the fine. And if the proceeds from the auction of the seized assets are still insufficient to cover the amount of the fine, Kerry’s prison sentence may be increased by an additional 190 days.

In addition to the prison sentence and fine, the panel of judges in its decision also imposed additional penalties on Kerry to compensate for the state’s financial losses. The judge increased the penalty for compensating the state’s financial losses imposed on Kerry to almost IDR 3 trillion.

“The defendant (Kerry) is ordered to pay compensation (for the state’s financial losses) amounting to IDR 2,905,420,003,854,” said the judge.

Kerry will also receive an additional prison sentence of 5 years if he cannot fulfill the additional penalty of paying compensation for the state’s financial losses. This sentence against Kerry is actually lower than the Public Prosecutor’s (JPU) demand.

The JPU, in its indictment to the panel of judges, asked that Kerry be sentenced to 18 years in prison and a fine of IDR 1 billion. The JPU also asked the panel of judges to impose an additional penalty on Kerry to compensate the state for a total of IDR 13.4 trillion.

The JPU’s indictment regarding state losses concerned the state’s financial losses of IDR 2.9 trillion and the state’s economic losses totaling IDR 10.5 trillion. However, in its decision, the panel of judges rejected the prosecutor’s evidence regarding the state’s economic losses in this corruption case.

The hearing for the reading of the verdict and sentence against Kerry was held from Thursday (26/2/2026) until the pre-dawn hours of Friday (27/2/2026). Because before deciding on Kerry’s legal fate as the beneficial owner of PT Orbit Terminal Merak (OTM), the panel of judges also read out the verdicts and sentences for the other defendants in the same case.

In total, there are nine defendants who underwent a hearing to determine their legal fate in this case. Before Kerry, the panel of judges also found several other defendants guilty, who came from the ranks of sub-holding leaders at Pertamina.

Among them, the defendant Riva Siahaan, as Director of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, who was sentenced to 9 years in prison. The defendant Maya Kusmaya, as Director of Marketing Center and Trading at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, who was also sentenced to 9 years in prison. And the defendant Edward Corne, as Vice President of Trading Operation at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Also, the defendant Agus Purwono, as Vice President of Feedstock Management at PT Kilang Pertamina International, who was also sentenced to 10 years in prison.
