Kepri Provincial Government kicks off export of 800 kilograms of fish destined for Australia
The Kepri provincial government flagged off the export of 800 kilograms of snapper and boneless angoli bound for Australia at Raja Haji Fisabilillah Airport in Tanjungpinang.
Representing Governor Ansar Ahmad, the Chair of the Family Welfare and Empowerment Movement (TP PKK), Dewi Kumalasari Ansar, said the export demonstrates that local fisheries products can compete globally.
‘This export is expected to add value for local fishermen, because the fish they catch are collected by the company and then exported overseas,’ Dewi said as she flagged off the export at RHF Tanjungpinang Airport on Saturday afternoon.
Dewi praised the exporter PT Bintan Inti Gemilang (BIG) in Bintan Regency, which has consistently been able to meet the quotas for overseas fisheries exports, especially to Australia.
‘If exports run smoothly, it will certainly influence an increase in regional own-source revenue (PAD),’ she added.
Meanwhile, PT BIG’s Dinaria said the export of snapper and angoli to Australia is the fifth time this has been done, with an economic value of around Rp160 million.
He said that snapper and angoli are currently favourites among Australians, hence demand is relatively high.
He added that within a week PT BIG routinely exports fish to various countries, from Singapore and Australia to the United States.
He noted that foreign fisheries exports depend on buyer orders. Global economic and geopolitical conditions also affect export activity.
‘For example, the current Iran-Israel-America conflict is also affecting shipping costs, making fish transport more expensive,’ he added.
