Kemensos Allocates Rp17 Billion in Cash Benefits to 1,000 Sumatra Disaster Victims
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) Saifullah Yusuf, or Gus Ipul, revealed that the government has disbursed allowances to heirs of disaster victims in Sumatra with a total budget of Rp17 billion. The compensation for disaster victims comprises Rp15 million in cash to the heirs of those who died, and Rp5 million for those who were seriously injured. ‘For those who died, the compensation received by the heirs is Rp15 million; meanwhile those injured receive Rp5 million. It has already been disbursed to more than 1,000 heirs. The total value of the budget is more than Rp17 billion,’ Gus Ipul told reporters at a press conference at the Kemensos office, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (5 March 2026). ‘Where the housing fill amounts to Rp3 million, for BSSE (Bantuan Stimulan Sosial Ekonomi) it is Rp5 million,’ he added.
Gus Ipul said Kemensos has received data from the Ministry of Home Affairs, namely 67,886 beneficiary families (KPM) that have been verified. The data has been processed in a hierarchical manner, starting from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB). After that, the data was signed by the Head of the Police (Kapolres) and the Head of the State Prosecutor’s Office (Kajari) before being verified by the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian. ‘Final data becomes our guideline for disbursement. In this distribution process, we tasked PT Pos Indonesia,’ he said.
At the same opportunity, Haris, the Acting President Director of PT Pos Indonesia, pledged to carry out the social assistance distribution faithfully through three methods. ‘We will do it in three ways: we pay at the post office, then pay in the community settings, at village or urban offices—if in Aceh, at the desa/kampung offices; at the kelurahan and kecamatan offices. The third method is that PT Pos Indonesia will deliver the assistance directly to recipients who are elderly or ill,’ he said.
